Don’t miss our Fall Driving Tour to Athens, Texas!
We will meet at McDonald’s in Southeast Dallas (intersection of U.S. Hwy. 175 and South Beltline Road) at 9:30am. As soon as you arrive, you will be asked to sign a liability waiver in order to participate. We will have a drivers meeting at 9:45am and shortly afterwards, line up the Jags to begin the tour.
This time, we will be taking a scenic route beginning in Seagoville, driving Farm to Market (FM) roads to Cedar Creek Lake, through Gun Barrel City and on to Athens.
We will go straight to Tara Winery (tarawinery.com) for a luxurious lunch at their Cellar Door Grill. Executive Chef Brian Kirksey has developed a special luncheon menu just for us with selections costing between $7 to $22 plus beverages, tax and gratuity (separate checks).
Those interested will then participate in Tara Winery’s wine-tasting experience. This will consist of five Tara wines for $16. For $20 you may keep the Tara-branded wine glass. This is a bargain since a single glass of wine served in the restaurant costs $8-$12. After the wine-tasting, you will be given the opportunity to buy some bottles of Tara wines ($20-$38 per bottle).
Then, we hit the road again, this time to visit fellow JOANT members Joe & Ruth Mahoney. At the Mahoney’s we will be served a late afternoon dessert and tour their vintage British car collection. Those who wish to bring a cake, cookies, etc. to share are welcome to do so. I anticipate that those who bought some wine from Tara to take home will have a bottle or two that they will want to taste at the Mahoney’s! Once we are at the Mahoney’s home, the Driving Tour has ended. Everyone will leave for home at their leisure and make their way home independently.
A week before the Driving Tour, the Club will send out the usual Evite (email) invitation. Be sure to watch for it and RSVP. We need an accurate head-count for the luncheon at Tara. For questions: Clark Kirby firstname.lastname@example.org
Tara Vineyards & Winery has a bed and breakfast as part of their operation. If you would like to spend that Saturday night in one of their four guest bedrooms in the Tara Inn, be sure to make your reservations today: http://www.tarawinery.com/the-inn/
